Backflow testing FAQs

Questions about backflow testing

Questions Yonkers, NY property owners ask about backflow testing and backflow prevention.

Talk to a person
What is the difference between an RPZ and a double check valve?
Both have two independent check valves. An RPZ adds a relief valve between the checks that discharges water to atmosphere if the checks leak, which is why it is required on high-hazard connections.
Can a backflow preventer freeze?
Yes. Trapped water expands and can crack the bronze body or blow out the bonnet. Insulated enclosures, heat cable or draining the device for winter prevent it.
Do I need an expansion tank after installing a backflow preventer?
Often, yes. The device makes your plumbing a closed system, so heated water cannot expand back to the main and the water heater relief valve may start dripping.
What is a cross-connection?
Any point where drinking water piping can come into contact with a non-potable source. Common examples are a hose in a bucket, a boiler fill line and an irrigation system.
How much does backflow testing cost in Yonkers, NY?
Pricing depends on device type, size and the local market. Call (833) 990-5874 for current pricing on backflow testing in Yonkers, NY.
